Day 8: Sanctioned Spellcasters

It’s a 4 cost minion. The stats were never going to be great and they’re certainly not. Df4 is to be expected, but Wp5 isn’t awful all things considered and is pretty average for the keyword.  The stats are not good, but really? What can we expect of a 4ss model?

Arcane Shield however is a very nice surprise, defensive tech! Honest to goodness defensive tech, kinda.  Counter spell as the keyword ability remains and is a nice little bonus bit of hand pressure, not that many folk will care too much about doing triggers against this 4hp model.  At least it puts a little bit of a tax on Leviticus before he turns them into an abomination.

Arcane touch at stat 4 is nothing to write home about, but flame burst has some potential.  Negation aura strikes me as useful near models that need to hit TNs, perhaps a summoner? Either way they’re sure to draw some hate with that, but if that takes threat away from something more expensive and valuable, I’m ok with that?

The big thing on their card is the control collar. Getting 3ap out of a significant model is, well, significant. You need to start your activation within 3” of a Soulstone user which at first glance isn’t great because you’ve got Sonnia and you’re probably not taking Hopkins, but thanks to Attuned on the Queller and the Handler this is actually a little easier to trigger than first appears. The big problem is, I think, maintaining that across multiple turns.  The temptation is to use these as scheme runners but I feel you very quickly get away the models that turn them on. I feel this warrants investigation, you can't expect much of them due to their cost but I think they're a model that may prove useful.  Or of course it dies immediately and becomes an Abomination.
